GUBGUB STUDIOS is the first artist-run, affordable shared studio space for artists of all disciplines. Beyond workspaces, it is an active community hub, offering programming that builds meaningful connections, supports artists, and helps grow a vibrant, grassroots arts scene in Qatar.
It offers events, mentorships, talks, and collaborations to support creative and professional development. The space fosters peer exchange, hosts regional and international guests, and helps build a more sustainable art ecosystem.
The Industrial Area along with Doha is transforming. Many businesses are relocating to newer developments on the outskirts, driving down rental costs. This opens a rare opportunity for artists to move into larger, affordable spaces in a still-central location following the model of movements by artists in major art centres around the world.
Goals:
- Kickstart grassroots, artist-led movement in Qatar
- Provide stable, long-term spaces for artists to have a continuous practice and collaborate
- Build a culture of dialogue, critique, and mentorship
- Support artist careers through visibility and critical exposure
- Connect artists with local fabricators and materials in the Industrial Area
