GUBGUB STUDIOS LAUNCH EVENT
Friday / February 6th, 2026
Gubgub Studios launched with an evening gathering held during the week of Art Basel Qatar. The event featured To Unfold, a temporary exhibition that activated the warehouse through a series of tent installations—one per artist—spread throughout the studio.
To Unfold brings together the playful efforts of twelve artists in a collective gesture at GubGub Studios, the newly opened artist-run space in Doha. Developed in curatorial collaboration with Mo Reda and Sebastian Betancur-Montoya, the exhibition emerges from ongoing conversations carried across geographies, regions, and shared imagined futures.
To Unfold is to remain uninhibited - to allow the essential, the playful, and the creative to surface through studio-based experimentation. Here, the act of being playful becomes the desired outcome, rather than the usual production-oriented presentation. The exhibition unfolds in the moment before things settle into form, where artists come together not to finalize or materialize, but to assemble in a collective gesture of serendipity.
To Unfold creates a bridge between the imaginative realm and the mundane rhythms of everyday life.
Curators:
Mo Reda, Sebastian Betancur-Montoya
Food for the evening was sourced from nearby restaurants in the industrial area, bringing the flavors of the neighborhood into the event and reflecting the everyday context surrounding the studio.
